「BLOOMBERG PAVILION PROJECT」

"Architectural Concept
I wished to create a pavilion that resembled a single tree.

Trees have a symbolic shape.  Simultaneously they produce shade while providing an ideal space for mankind.  I wondered what would happen if the walls were to keep growing upwards and present an uneven surface like ‘pleats’.  Pleats resemble a tree in the way that they spread out and capture the sun and I felt that they would produce a bright, impressive exterior.  I also thought that the space beneath this surface would present a relaxed atmosphere, similar to that of tree shade that would be an ideal quality for an exhibition space.

The pleated surface was created using an extremely simple technique.  It consists entirely of combinations of isosceles triangles in what is called a hyplane structure, producing a continuous curved, pleated surface.  This basic structure can be repeated in a simple fashion to construct an organic whole.  It is similar to the way in which a tree branches repeatedly in a simple form that assists efficient photosynthesis.

What does nature or simplicity mean in architecture?  This small pavilion poses an important question for the future.

【建築コンセプト】
一本の樹木のようなパヴィリオンをつくりたいと思った。
樹木はシンボリックな形をしている。と同時に、木陰のような、人間にとって快適な空間をつくりだしてもいる。
たとえば、壁が上に向かってどんどん成長し、もこもこした「ひだ」のような連続面をつくったらどうなるか。「ひだ」はちょうど樹木のように広がって光を受け、明るい印象的な外観をつくりだすだろう。またこの面によってその下には、ちょうど木陰のように少し落ち着いた、展示空間にふさわしい質を持った場所ができるだろう。
ひだ状の面は、とても単純な方法でつくられている。ハイプレインと呼ばれる同じ二等辺三角形を組み合わせるだけで、一定の割合でたわんだひだ状の連続面ができるのだ。ここでは、単純な反復が、有機的なまとまりを生み出している。ちょうど樹木というまとまりが、光合成に有利な単純な枝分かれの反復でできているように。
建築にとって自然とは、あるいは単純さとは何か。この小さなパヴィリオンはそういう大きな問いを、私たちの未来に投げかけている。

City Wall

There are many City Walls in Tokyo.

東京には都市の壁が多い。

It's architecture spaces which city formed.

都市が形成した建築空間。

I like to walk there.

そこを歩くのが好き。

What is this?

Answer : Tokyo Tower

答え：東京タワー

It is unclear just by looking up from ground against sun. 

逆光で下から見上げるとわかりにくい。

Incidentally, I went up it.Of course, I want up by stairs.

ちなみに、東京タワー登りました。もちろん、階段で。

It has 600 stairs that go up to big observation deck that it's  150m in height.

150mの高さにある大展望台までの600段。

I looked at surrounding buildings becoming smaller and smaller and the skeleton of Tower before my eyes.

小さくなる周辺の建物たちとタワーの骨格を間近に見れました。

It is insipid to take the elevator! I recommend it.

エレベーターで行くなんて味気ない！オススメです。

Tokyo Tower was more retro by saving on electricity.

節電モードで、レトロ感も増していた東京タワーでした。

This building is a vintage apartment along Meiji st. in Jinguumae, Shibuya Ward. 

渋谷区神宮前の明治通り沿いにあるヴィンテージ・マンション。

It was completed when the Tokyo Olympics in 1964, and it says a pioneer of designer's apartment. 

1964年、東京オリンピック開催の中に完成し、デザイナーズマンションの先駆けと言われている。

As I go through there, I see it unconsciously.

ここを通る時、ついつい見てしまう。

HIBIYA KADAN

I dropped in HIBIYA KADAN when I was near Hibiya.
日比谷の近くにいた時に、日比谷花壇に寄ってみた。

This building seems like a showcase.
まるでショーケースのようだった。


When I looked it more near, I felt this walls are thicker than the photo of magazine.
近くで見ると、雑誌で見た写真より壁が厚いように感じた。

a cruise on certain port

Though it's natural now, I cruised with having a dinner at the end of the year.

今更ですが、年末にクルージングディナーをしました。

My pictures were blurred by the cold and ship's swing. 

せっかくの夜景ですが、寒さと船の揺れで写真がブレブレでした。

But, the person who know there is sure to understand.

でも、わかる人にはわかるはず。

Here is Yokohama.

ここが、横浜だと。

 By the way, the building of second photo's center is OSANBASHI, it's my favorite.  

ちなみに、二枚目の中央の建物は私の好きな大さん橋です。

Since I didn't have an image of the front of OSANBASHI from the sea,  I was excited a bit.

海から真っ正面に見る大さん橋のイメージがなかったので、ちょっと興奮しました。

I recommend the cruise if you will go sightseeing in Yokohama.

横浜を観光するなら、クルージングはおすすめです。

I recognized again a fact that a row of buildings in Yokohama were designed so that the view  from the sea is beautiful.
横浜の街並は海から見た時にキレイにみれるように計画されたという事実を再認識しました。

Next time will be at noon, because I want to see piers individually.

個人的には埠頭を見てみたいので、次は昼に。

OSANBASHI YOKOHAMA

Noh play

 

 I went to The National Noh Theater by my friend's offer the other day.

 先日、友人の誘いで国立能楽堂へ行った。

 I haven't experience in seeing near the Noh stage.  So, I waited for the opening time as I be aching. 

 今まで能舞台を間近で見る経験がなく、わくわくしながら開演の時を待った。

The programs are Kyogen "Shimizu" and Noh play "Fujito".

演目は、狂言「清水」と能「藤戸」。

I have seen Kyogen, it's comedy, some times so that I chuckled with seeing it. But I didn't accustom myself to the Hayashi, Noh music and Jiutai, the chorus performance in Noh play.  

笑劇である狂言は何度か観た事があるので観ながら笑ったが、能は囃子や地謡に慣れなかった。

 It differ from Kabuki wholly.

歌舞伎とも全く違った。

But, I was interested in a situation that turned the scenes on the stage 5.4 meters square one after the other.

けれど、三間(5.4m)四方の舞台の上で次々と場面が移り変わる様が興味深い。

 I wanted to see other programs.

他の演目も観てみたくなった。

Though the Noh mask is beautiful, I bought a handkerchief just as I was leaving. 

帰りに能面がキレイで、ハンカチを買った。

  

I will go to see with this handkerchief.

このハンカチを持って、また観にいこう。

能楽事始

A Day of GUNMA

This post is talk of a day of Gunma, 10/28, belatedly.

遅ればせながら、10/28、群馬の日の話。

 It says admissions to almost museums are free in this day. 

この日は、ほとんどの美術館が入館無料になるらしい。

So, I went there.

と、いうことで、行ってきました。

Takasaki, Gunma. It was rainy when a typhoon is on its way.

群馬県、高崎市。台風接近中で雨模様。

First to Kuragano.

まずは倉賀野へ。

It took 50 minutes at walk from the station.

駅から歩くこと、50分。

I arrived the Forest of Gunma.

群馬の森に到着。

There is THE MUSEUM OF MODERN ART, GUNMA in the park.

その公園の中に、群馬県立近代美術館がある。

This museum is composed of cubic flame of 1.2m grid.

1.2mグリットの立方体フレームがベースになって、この美術館は構成されている。

In the Inside, it is seen the square grids in places. 

内部では、ところかしこに正方形グリッドがみられた。

I looked finally because it had been in the middle of remodeling when I had gone there 3 years before.

３年前もこの美術館を見に行ったけど、ちょうど改装中だったのでやっと見れた。

This time was my object of the exhibition, "SIRAI ANIMA et PERSONA" in there.

今回は、ここで開催している「建築家　白井晟一　精神と空間」展が目的。

It was worth seeing because of a lot of plans and photographs. 

たっぷり図面や写真があって見応えありました。

And to Takasaki by a bus.

そして、バスで高崎へ。

So,  so that to see Gunma Music center by Antonin Raymond

そう、アントニー・レイモンド設計の群馬音楽センターを見に。

It impress sharp by folded plate structure.

折半構造によるシャープな印象。

I didn't look It's stage this time as well as previous time I had visited 

前回も訪れたけど、今回も舞台が見れなかった。

That's pity... I will go next time again. 

残念…また今度。

Next, to Takasaki Philosophy hall.

次は高崎哲学堂へ。

I didn't know can enter from Takasaki City Museum because I went haphazard. I could see thank to an Alfons Maria Mucha exhibition.

いきあたりばったりだったので高崎市美術館から入館できることを知らず、市民美術館でミュシャ展が開催していたおかげで見れました。

It was good.
よかった。

Takasaki Philosophy hall was an old house of Fusaichiro Inoue who engaged the movement of  museum establishment in Gunma.

高崎哲学堂は群馬の美術館設立運動に携わってきた井上房一郎の家だった。

This was designed by Antonin Raymond too. 

こちらもアントニー・レイモンド設計。

The built-in furniture fit into Japanese scale and be easy to use.

作り付けの家具は、日本人のスケールに合って使いやすい。

There was Wegner's furniture and comfortable.

ウェグナーの家具も置かれて、居心地がいい。

I stayed on right at there because of the lights soothe.

照明も落ち着きがあって、すっかり居座ってしまった。

Come and see to Gunma Prefecture in a day of Gunma

Good Design Award

I looked at Good Design Award exhibition.

グッドデザイン賞の展示を見た。

Good Design Award is an activity which selects "good design" for Japanese development of comfortable life and industry, and has over 50 years of history .

グッドデザイン賞は日本の豊かな生活と産業の発展を求めて、「優れたデザイン」を選ぶ活動で５０年以上の歴史を持つ。

These pictures are goods I thought I would like to have from the exhibition.

写真は展示で欲しいと思った品々。

The first is a Marugame Fan named "ojigi"
丸亀うちわ「ojigi」

It's shape seems to bow down.

お辞儀をしてるようなカタチ。

It is easier to fan than a typical fan.

一般的なうちわより扇ぎやすい。

"SODENTO"
「ソデント」


 It is a lightweight table that only weights 5㎏.

５㎏の軽いテーブル。

It becomes a shelf by stacking one on top another up.

重ねると棚になる。

On a side note, the grand prize is an "Air Multiplier " made by Dyson.

ちなみに、大賞はダイソンの「エアマルチプライアー」

The golden prizes were "HIBIYAKADAN  Hibiya park store" and "The tube hotel  9h" and so on.

金賞では、「ヒビヤカダン 日比谷公園店」や「カプセルホテル 9h」などなど。

"Feeling things"

I went to the Exhibition of Olafur Eliasson, a artist in Iceland.

アイスランドの芸術家、オラファー・エリアソンの展示に行きました。

I played with my eyes.

自分の視覚と戯れてきました。

The image, a big mirror was connected with a car run around a city, impressed most among three works. 

３つの作品のうち、街の中を車に付いた大きな鏡が走る映像が一番印象的でした。

I saw by cat's eyes for a change.

たまには、猫目線。

Even such thin grass become a roof, a pillar and a floor for insects. 

こんな薄っぺらい草でも、虫にとっては屋根になり、柱になり、床になる。

It is the grass-architecture. The green town.

草の建築。緑の町。

I wanna go there one time.

一度行ってみたい。

By the way, what's this plant?

ところで、この植物なんだろな？

It looks as if a bunch of green soybeans turned.

枝豆の房がひっくり返ったみたい。

Powers of Ten

I found this famous film, that I first watched at the college and though about scale, on You tube.

大学で初めて見て、スケールについて考えさせられたこの有名な映画をYou Tubeで見つけました。

Then, I tried to translate the explanation of it to Japanese.

そこで、そこの説明文を日本語訳してみました。

"Power of Ten"  is an academic film which was made in 1969.

『Powers of Ten』は1968年に作られた教育映画。

Charles and Ray Eames who are famous for furniture design wrote the scenario and directed. 

家具デザインで有名なチャールズとレイ・イームズ夫妻が脚本を書き、監督しました。

It doesn't fade away no matter when I watch.

何度見ても色褪せないなぁ。

The Leaf Chapel By Klein Dytham architects

I continue to talk about RISONARE.
Today, I introduce a chapel of there.

リゾナーレの話の続き。

今日は、ここのチャペルの紹介。

This capel is prized a silver award of  "Environmental Design & Architecture department"  in D&AD award 2005, is famous as one of most glory for design of Europe.

このチャペルは、クラインダイサムアーキテクツが2005年にヨーロッパのデザイン界で最も栄誉ある賞のひとつとして知られるD＆AD賞の「Environmental Design & Architecture 部門」で銀賞を受賞した建物だ。

This structure is such as to combine two leaves, one leaf consist of glass, and another leaf com is made up of white skin of which holes decorated with figure of flowers is escaped from. 

二枚の葉を組み合わせたようなシンプルな構成で、

一枚はガラス、もう一枚は白い膜で草花模様で飾られた穴から光がもれる。

When the bride had showed up, It was produced blending with the garden that this white leaf was part of the glass leaf.
the shape of the bride had been coming with her father from the garden was very nice. 

新婦の入場時、この白い葉がガラスの葉と重なり、ガーデンがあらわれる演出がされた。

ガーデンから、父とともに入ってくる新婦の姿はとても素敵だったな。

This chapel is small. But the garden this side was part of this.
So, I had not minded the spread at all.

チャペルは小さいけど、手前のガーデンもチャペルの一部となるから、

広さはまったく気にならなかった。

I pleased that It had been sunny and nice marriage.

晴れて、素敵な式になってよかった。

RISONARE in Kobuchizawa,Yamanashi

I went and celebrated the marriage of my cousin at RISONARE yesterday.
RISONARE was design by Mario Bellini, one of famous architect in Italy.
It is said that the image of this buildings is the mountain city in the Middle Ages.

Because Yamanashi is surrounded by a lot of mountains, Mt.Fuji,the South Alps and Yatugatake

You can view the South Alps at the place of this picture which is toward South.
Moreover, the opposite side can be viewed Yatugatake.

"山梨県小淵沢にあるリゾナーレ"

昨日、リゾナーレで従姉妹の結婚を祝福してきた。

リゾナーレは、イタリアの有名な建築家の一人であるマリオ・ベリーニに設計された。

 建物のイメージは、中世の山岳都市。

なぜなら、山梨は富士山や南アルプス、そして八ヶ岳と、 多くの山々の囲まれているからだそうだ。

南向きの、この写真の場所では南アルプスを眺められる。

さらに、反対側では八ヶ岳が眺められる。

 

The flower near this place/傍にあった花

I thought this flower match a day of the wedding.

この花は結婚式の日にぴったりだと思った。

The Japan Folk Crafts Museum

The main building/本館

the west building(the old house of Muneyoshi Yanagi)/西館(旧柳宗悦邸)

The other day, I went to the Japan Folk Crafts Museum which have the corrections of Muneyoshi Yanagi who is a father of Sori Yanagi.

However, it was worth while to notice that his old house which is the west building and the main building.

Especially, I notice that the stone of Oya has been worn at the wall outer walls of these buildings and the detail is various. 

In addition, the stairs of main building make an impression of Western-style.

It is not necessarily that these buildings is Japanese.

...But Japanese would be so.

"日本民藝館"

 先日、柳宗理の父、柳宗悦の収集品を展示している日本民藝館へ行った。

しかし、宗悦の旧家である西館や本館に注目してしまった。

特に外壁に大谷石が付けられているところやディテールの多様さ。

更に洋風の印象を受ける本館の階段。

日本民藝館だからと言って、一概に日本的ではない。

 ...いや、もしかしたらそれが日本的なのかも。
